Here's where we went + What we thought

Blacktronika — John Morrison covered every night of a festival celebrating people of color who pioneered electronic music... here's how Morrison describes the event series in his own words: "DJ, Producer and Professor King Britt's 2026 Blacktronika festival resurrected six legendary Philly parties from the '90s and 2000s. Over the course of seven nights, Tastytreats, Beat Society, Bodyrock, The Black Lily, Back2Basics and a special tribute to Dexter Wansel reminded music fans of the vitality of Philly's nightlife and Black music history." Read Here about the multi-night showcase; check out a playlist of song highlights from the festival at the bottom of this newsletter.

Fooling Around @ Punchline Philly — Pierce Jordan participated in a dating meets standup comedy competition. Read Here about all of the awkward positions he found himself in throughout the night.

Pro Wrestling Entertainment 250 @ Bok — Marquis Combs checked out a Semiquincentennial-themed sports match. Read Here.

Here's we're going + What we're expecting

Jazz at 250 ft. Alfie Pollit and his All-Star Trio @ Steinway and Sons Philadelphia Sunday, June 5th at 6pm - A performance and discussion of Philadelphia Jazz featuring storied Philly jazz pianist Alfie Pollit. There is no info about this online but it is happening and should be pretty special.

Lady J's Mutant And Proud X-Men 97' Season 2 Premiere Watch Party @ Queen & Rook Wednesday, July 1st at 6:30pm FREE - A watch party to celebrate the season premiere of the 90s X-Men animated series reboot with a cosplay contest, raffles, and door prizes. Queen & Rook is a table-top gaming cafe that sort of looks like a medieval tavern.

Porches with Mackeeper @ Johnny Brenda's Wednesday, July 1st at 7pm $25.26 - Porches was extremely important to me when I was 19 - it is difficult to explain the hold they had on me and all my friends in central NY in the early 2010s. They will always be this band to me.

From DJ John Morrison: "This playlist is a tribute to the music played at Blacktronika and the brilliant local artists that created it."
