Here's where we went + What we thought

Fourth of July Garden Variety Show - Tyler Maxwell skipped straight over the parades of Philly patriotism on Saturday by heading to New Jersey for a backyard DIY show featuring lots of cool highlights, including a synchronized swimming pool performance. Read More Here.

Porches at Johnny Brenda's — Tyler also caught a performance by 2010s synth-pop project Porches, who are back on tour with their latest album release, MASK. Read Here.

Kea's Ark at the Sedgwick Theater — Benjamin Gallman saw a showing of an experimental play that recalls the legacy of local activist Kea Tawana, who built a yacht in the '80s out of broken homes. Read Here.

Here's we're going + What we're expecting

Freak Mic: The Real Housewives Of Freak Mic @ Milkboy South Monday, July 6th at 7:30pm - A semi-open mic event for weird shit and strange talents.

Goth Goth Reunion: The Angies, Party Nerves, Dana Johann @ Church Of The Advocate Friday, July 10th at 7pm $20 - Dark punks The Angies headline a goth night at the Church Of The Advocate. For those dedicated enough to wear all black in this heat.

Jejune w The Shyness Clinic and Ethel Meserve @ Ukie Club Saturday, July 11th at 7pm $28 - Underground emo legends Jejune reunite for the first time since the 90s to celebrate a catalogue reissue with excellent archival record label Numero Group. They will be joined by fellow '90s emo heads The Shyness Clinic and Pennsylvania post-hardcore Ethel Meserve.

From reviewer Tyler Maxwell: "Here’s a mix of local and recent and brand new tracks to bump. Some of these tunes are near and dear to my heart already — the stuff of the small rooms I tend to haunt in a city I always tell people is sneakily maybe the best place to live if you love, like can’t-get-enough-of love, good music. (The Fenne Lily track technically isn’t local, but I played banjo on it, and I’m local, damnit.)"
