Abronia, Cartoon w/Bill Nace, Earthen Jug @ Ortlieb's Monday, Aug 3rd 7pm $19.74 - An evening of psychedelia at Ortliebs... Portland, Oregon's Abronia nods to 70s british folk rock and the sounds of imagined deserts. Philly krautrockers Cartoon will be joined by local experimental guitar legend Bill Nace. Earthen Jug will be getting very weird with it to open the night. Good show for spacing out while thinking about climate collapse.
Tilted Presents: Nancy Strong, Curse Reverser, Nadafinger @ Ortlieb's Wednesday, Aug 5th 8pm $1 - Tilted is a Philly scene history zine. This event is their first ever curated $1 Wednesday show... This model works great in other cities to bring folks out to see smaller local bands, excited to see it happening here. This first night features Philly experimental electronic pop from Nancy Strong, Curse Reverser, and Nadafinger running the gamut from spooky nostalgia to lo-fi aggression.
BlackStar Film Festival @ Various locations Aug 6th-9th - The 15th annual BlackStar Film Festival is running this week, a celebration of Black, Brown, and Indigenous filmmaking and storytelling from around the world. This year's lineup includes 91 films from 30 countries as well as talks, performances, and community events. If you don't know where to start, check out Tenants Of Lenapehocking In The Age Of Magnets, a film focusing on the stories of North Philadelphia's Black community and the electromagnetic industry of the 20th century.
