Black Joy Parade and Festival
Broadway & Franklin
Oakland
February 23rd, 2025

Prescott Circus joined the chat (procession), marching tall.

For an hour this past Sunday, Broadway Avenue was filled with feet in place of tires and voices in place of car horns, and oh how the city sang.

From dancers to circus friends ....

A Future Madame President (according to our parade-watching neighbor, pictured bottom center above) graced us with her goodwill.

... health care workers, cyclists, and sleepy babes ...

... to straight-up fabulous fits.

Yes!

A little bit of everyone was represented.

Pink and fringey was the game of the day, I guess!
Some powerful flowers

And, of course, no good Oakland event would be a real town time if there weren’t plenty of beauties of ogle.

I liked Goldy.

A block lined with them, in fact, each more lovingly restored than the last.

It was, as ever, a pleasure to soak in the loving and truly joyful vibes this festival brings to the streets of our city, each smile and chord and blessing to its people.
