The Nick Marini Trio brought live jazz to the reborn back-alley space of Zinc Thursday night, part of a new weekly “Garden Lounge” series.
The performances take place each Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. (with food and drinks servbed from 6 to 10). The lounge is an indoor-outdoor space tucked behind the restaurant.
Guests enter through the alley immediately to the right of ZINC’s Chapel Street entrance across from the Green, giving the lounge the feeling of a hidden retreat in the middle of the city. The weekly series features local jazz musicians, along with food and drinks from ZINC “With the Garden Lounge, we wanted to create something that feels like an escape in the middle of downtown,” said ZINC General Manager Sean D’Addio. “We wanted to create a place where people can slow down and enjoy a memorable evening.”
Thursday’s trio featured Nico Marini Nico Marini on keys, Caleb Orvik on bass, and Kevin Fry on drums. I really enjoyed the music and the trio’s performance, especially the way the musicians played off one another. The Garden Lounge also felt like a natural fit for jazz, with the musicians close to the audience and the music easily filling the room.
