I’ve only been to Indianapolis once, but I can safely say that Wishy is the most exciting thing to ever come out of that town.

And this band has only released one album so far, but I can safely say that their upcoming “Nature’s Pill” will be their best yet.

I’m riding high on Wishy as a top-notch Indy export and up-and-coming indie rock superstars because of their latest single “All The Rage,” the opening track from their sophomore effort.

This thing is all nerd-punk angst and jangly guitars with massive hooks, hammered home in part by the dueling vocals of Kevin Krauter and Nina Pitchkites. If you’re a fan of Superchunk and the Breeders, you’ll feel like Wishy could’ve easily opened up for either one of those bands back in the ’90s heyday. You could even toss in a bit of Indian Summer or the first Jimmy Eat World album because there’s some loving send-ups of early Midwest emo buried in here, too.

And speaking of that, that’s the number one thing attached to Wishy and their sound — a true return to ’90s alternative, flannel-wrapped bangers that are all about heartbreak and ditching responsibility to embrace the true Gen X slacker of the bygone era. Sometimes both!

“Now that you’re gone / can’t turn the TV on

Just can’t find motivation / well, these days it’s all the rage

So fuck doing the dishes / fuck these clothes on my floor

I don’t care anymore now that you’re gone”

If you’re looking for a song that sounds like the opening scene of a ’90s teen movie where the main character quickly rushes out of the house, skips breakfast, and hops on a skateboard to go pull a prank at the local high school, Wishy’s “All The Rage” sums up that sound perfectly and the rest of band's aesthetic lovingly matches that throwback world, too.
