What was considered post-Velvet Underground underground music came back to life underground in North Haven, thanks to two rockers who lived it back in the day.
The occasion was a concert at the Small Batch Cellars by Richard Barone, frontman of the 1980s power-pop band The Bongos, and Glenn Mercer of the 1976-spawned band the Feelies, who are currently reviving the era’s music as a touring act called Hazy Cosmic Jive.
Leigh Busby was there Saturday night to capture the night in photos and video, including a cover of “All the Young Dudes.” The ensemble played covers of glam-rock songs that inspired their own original work back in the day, from artists spanning from David Bowie, Brian Eno, Roxy Music, and Lou Reed to Iggy Pop and T.Rex. “I was hoping ‘All Fall Down’ by Barone, but perhaps next time,” Busby reports. “Nevertheless the night was a great success, with plenty of fans getting autographs and selfies with the friendly band and lead singer, Glenn Mercer. So refreshing to see this.”
