The Best Lobster Roll

This Michigander has had a fair share of lobster rolls in her life – but nothing has topped the combo lobster roll sandwich at 374 in Niantic. I made a stop while enjoying a day in the seaside town to celebrate my birthday.

The restaurant – named for its address on Main Street – is located at the edge of the small downtown, not far from the beach entry. It features a large, wide patio – perfect for watching beachgoers passing by – and a charming, modern interior.

The restaurant was a 2025 CRAZIE Award finalist for Best Restaurant. It prides itself on offering upscale comfort food with seasonal produce, local brews and craft cocktails, as well as brunch served “every damn day.” The black fried oyster toast with aioli, avocado and cilantro caught my eye, as well as the strawberries and cream with vanilla graham crumb, candied almonds, mint and balsamic glaze.

But the lobster roll duo was where it was at. The “duo” refers to it being a combo of two half lobster rolls: a hot roll with melted butter and sherry and a cold roll with mayo, celery and lemon. The lobster for both was light, fresh and generous. I couldn’t pick up much sherry in the hot roll, but the melted butter was perfect. The cold roll had a refreshing lemon flavor, supported by a light mayo that didn’t overpower or weigh down an otherwise light dish. I can’t say which was my favorite, only that I could have eaten an entire roll of each.

The roll came with a side. I opted for the wedge salad with baby romaine, gorgonzola, bacon, tomato and red onion (which I nixed.) It was also generous, loaded with creamy gorgonzola and balsamic vinegar, which were a bit heavy for my taste but an overall win.

It was a great meal for a hot June day and a perfect way to start my current New England adventure and my new year.
