Motor City Sports Bar

I am forever in search of dive bar delicacies that defy the norm.
This time, we’re slinging back cold Miller Lites and asking for a large order of ćevapi at Motor City Sports Bar. It’s an Eastern European delicacy that I haven’t seen on any other menu in metro Detroit (except for Motor City's other location in Warren).
These little skinless sausages made from minced lamb and veal are addictive. If you order the 5 piece, just know you’ll be going back for more. It’s one of those rare dishes that I don’t mind putting together myself as it comes deconstructed with juicy sport peppers, huge chunks of fresh feta cheese, lettuce, onions and tomato, all ready to be wrapped in warm slices of pita to make little sandwiches.
They do offer a fully formed pita version. But I’ve already heard debate on how it’s just not the same when you don’t put it together yourself.
Another glowing endorsement here is that even long-time staffers still eat it after all these years.
It’s a nice nod to Hamtramck’s wildly diverse population today and yesterday; a piece of the old world still getting served up from a hot grill in 2026.
This bar has always felt like the last of a dying breed to me. It’s a working class watering hole from a bygone industrial Detroit, where factory workers would go post-shift (or pre-shift in this town).
And whether you’re coming for the critically acclaimed burger or the ćevapi speciality, there’s simply no place quite like Motor City Sports Bar in Hamtramck.
