“We had to take you to Africa, real quick,” the percussionist said after the last drumbeats of the first number had faded into the air and the band, defined by its tantalizing and propelling beats, played against the impending storm and got in a full set before the “Folk on the Edge” fest was cut short at Bear’s Smokehouse.
