“Suckerrr”
Spill tab Inc. / Because Music
I’m not sure I’ve heard anything like this track.
Quiet acoustic guitar. A breathy vocal from Claire Chicha, who records under the name spill tab.
You’ll be seeing this name a lot over the next year and beyond, either as a solo artist or as a collaborator with your favorite mainstream pop artist.
I feel like Billie Eilish has already slid in the DMs, but who knows.
“Suckerrr” succeeds with its breathy vocal and quiet guitar. It becomes an absolute banger when the choir of Chicha’s vocal comes into the track like an avalanche, adding this MASSIVE element to an otherwise sleepy little song. It’s deceptive in that way. On top of that, there’s this sort of jock jam, pep rally chant that adds even more vocal mastery onto a relatively tiny foundation of music.
spill tab is getting ready to release an album in February called “AngieAngieAngie” (a deluxe version of a previous album). In a press release, spill tab laid it out like this: “”Suckerrr” is about being completely crazy about someone who seems not to care (</3) but knows you’re obsessed and loves playing that game… And for some reason, you keep going back to it… :////”
I’m ready to play the game of putting this on repeat for the rest of the year. I can’t wait to hear what’s next.
